Founder of Life Unedited™ and Creator of Delírio® Latin African Dance, Laurie Pillow is a journalist, international development communications consultant and professional dancer who covers human rights issues from the front lines of humanitarian action.

She’s known for digging in and not settling on getting the gist of a story.

In 2010, Pillow worked in post-earthquake Haiti. Recognized internationally for the integration of cultural dance and music into classroom teaching methods, she helped create a performance arts-based strategy used to administer psychological first aid to disaster survivors.

After months of relief work in Haiti, Pillow relocated to the Dominican Republic to document the long-term effects of the disaster on the island. This in-depth field work in international development communications has drawn the attention of the United Nations Development Programme, CASA de Maryland and Haiti's Fondasyon Pro-Kilti, agencies for whom she has served as a consultant.

The integrity and impact of Pillow's work lies in the unlikely combination of her experience as a journalist and advocate and her expertise in cultural arts.  Her distinct skill sets allow her to participate in and document aspects of cultures inaccessible to the media and often misunderstood or ignored.

Multilingual, Pillow spends her time between Dominican Republic and Washington, DC. When she’s not collecting stories, she’s telling them. A dynamic speaker, she inspires people around the world to explore topics in Afro-descendant dance history and social justice and produces events to promote social inclusion and community action.
